''I never wanted this...''

Recently, I’ve befriended a Cars blog on Tumblr named hillbillyhell​ and I’ve been kinda obsessed with her SalQueen fankids. Namely the oldest one, Paul McQueen, because I like the background she came up for him. Paul’s a racer, just like his dad, but feels like it’s something he has to be, with people telling him that he should follow his father’s foot- er, tiretracks and become the next Lightning McQueen.

I drew this as an unofficial prequel to one of her drawings that depicted Paul snapping at his dad that he doesn’t want to be like him (with some changes here and there, cause it was made a while before Cars 3 was released).

The context I came up for this is that Lightning and Cruz wanted to take Paul down to Willy’s Butte for some late-night training (along with Sally, who joined the trio just to watch and make sure Paul was doing okay). However, Paul was at the point where he was becoming fed up with his father’s unintentional insensitivity. Paul eventually tries to leave, but Lightning questions why Paul suddenly wanted to stop racing. Racing, racing, racing. After hearing the same exact word he’s been hearing for pretty much his whole life, Paul finally stands up for himself and exclaims that he never wanted to be a racer, he never wanted to be the next Lightning McQueen and that he never wanted to be like his father.

Yes, I know that’s a long description, but I wasn’t sure how to put any of that in a short manner. My only concern right now is that you like it regardless.
